THE EVENT
APRIL 1 ST 2017 12-3 pm
HOLTON-HOOKER LIVING CENTER
01

Sarah Chatterley, the link between SAP & HTM 240, came to our class with an idea and a mission to spread the word of not only what the Sustainable Agriculture Project is at Grand Valley State University but also on sustainability in general. It was our job to create a vision over the months January, February & March to finally commence to event on April 1st.

As a class we separated the event into categories that were most important to us and split into our groups which is what we did for the rest of the semester until the event. We began to gather all of our supplies and continually contacted Sarah so that she could approve the best idea.
The day was finally here and the class met at Holton-Hooker to begin the set up of the event. There were 4 live bands, activities, food and information to give a well rounded event to the community that we are here to support.
Where We Came From. Where We Are. Where We’re Going.

THE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE PROJECT
Founded in 2008 the SAP at Grand Valley State University is actually a physical place, a farm. This is where students can spend time researching plants, human-environmental interaction and learn as a community.
This farm is also a laboratory for students to go and be hands on while they research, learn about thinking skills (both quantitative and critical thinking) and learn about the life of sustainability. They may study anything that involves soil, water, plant life, climate change and the environment in general.
There are many opportunities here for any type of students because it is thought to be a community. There are opportunities for artists seeing as there is a studio/gallery space and there is a farm site where there are staff to walk you through many things having to do with agriculture and plant life. A unique part to SAP is that it is also a business that produces food to then sell in order to support research and activities at the SAP.

The future of not only this program but this world revolves in your hands and the goal of the SAP is to raise awareness about what they do. For more information please visit GVSU Sustainable Agriculture Project on facebook.
